NDIC inaugurates anti-corruption unit to strengthen ethical practices

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has taken a significant step in its commitment to combating corruption by inauguring its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

During the ceremony held at the NDIC headquarters in Abuja, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bello Hassan underscored the Corporation’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, emphasizing its core values of teamwork, respect, fairness, integrity, professionalism, and passion.

Mr Hassan highlighted the crucial role of the NDIC ACTU in strengthening the Corporation’s operational system by implementing various compliance measures.

”These measures include robust internal controls, regular risk assessments, strict adherence to regulatory guidelines, and comprehensive employee training programs.

”The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the NDIC’s ongoing commitment to fighting corruption and enhancing transparency in its operations,” he stated.

Representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) commended the NDIC Management for their dedication and active support in establishing and advancing the activities of the ACTU.

Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of ICPC, praised the efficiency and diligence of the NDIC ACTU, adding that it has led to the Corporation retaining the first position for two consecutive years on the annual ICPC Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard.

The newly inaugurated ACTU members were sworn in during the ceremony.

Their responsibilities include:

Sensitizing staff against corruption.

Conducting system studies and reviews.

Assessing corruption risks to strengthen internal systems.

Monitoring budget implementation.

Coordinating whistleblowing platforms.

Identifying and rewarding outstanding staff members.

Dr. Aliyu urged the new ACTU members to build on the good legacies of their predecessors and to complement Management’s efforts in promoting the Corporation’s core values.

He emphasized the need for NDIC Management to sustain its commitment and support to the ACTU to ensure optimal performance and maintain ethical standards among staff, thus sustaining a positive image for the Corporation.
