United Airlines Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos, 256 Passengers, Crew Safe

A United Airlines Boeing 787-800 aircraft made an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Friday, after experiencing technical issues over Ivory Coast airspace.
The plane, which departed from Lagos on Thursday, returned safely to the airport at 03:22 on Friday, with all 256 passengers and crew members on board.
According to a statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), four passengers and two crew members sustained serious injuries, while 27 passengers and five crew members had minor injuries.
The injured passengers were transported to the MMA Clinic and others to the Headquarters Clinic for treatment.
The FAAN statement praised the swift response of the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), Aviation Medical, and Aviation Security (AVSEC) teams, who were already at the gate when the plane parked for deboarding. The plane did not sustain any major damage.
The incident occurred when the Washington-bound flight developed technical issues, leading to a loss of pressure and a sharp descent.
The pilot reported distress at 01:20, and the rescue team responded swiftly, with the passengers and crew disembarking safely.
