The death sentence of Ramon Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotels in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been confirmed by Court of Appeal in Ondo State on Thursday.

Adedoyin was convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student at Obafemi Awolowo University, which occurred between November 5 and 7, 2021, at Adedoyin’s hotel.

In its judgment on Thursday, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling of the Osun State High Court, confirming that the original judgment stands.

According to the judgement, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part.

“The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.

“Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside.

“Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”

Earlier, in May 2023, the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, had pronounced Adedoyin and two staff members of the hotel guilty of murder.

The court also sentenced Adedoyin, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem to death.

It, however, freed three of the hotel workers — Magdalene Chiefuna, Oluwole Lawrence and Adebayo Kunle.

Adegoke was found dead in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel, Ile-Ife, where he (the deceased) had lodged.
