Three people escape death as trailers collide
Two motor mechanics, and a driver narrowly escaped death on Friday evening in a Lagos suburb, Alagbado, when a trailer carrying a 40ft container fell on another trailer as it maneuvered to pass the rough road at Killington bus stop, Alagbado, Lagos.
The accident happened at about 6.00pm in the evening. The mechanics were working on a broken down truck with registration number SMK 493XY. The truck allegedly also broke down due to the bad condition of the road. For more than a year, the road has been in a deplorable condition, with craters deep enough to upturn a vehicle. Although the other side of the road from Sango-Ota leading to Lagos has been tarred, the other side from Lagos to Sango-Ota remains a nightmare for motorists.
The driver of the broken down truck and two mechanics were working on fixing their vehicle when they noticed that the approaching trailer was not going to escape the bad road. According to the mechanic ,they decided to move away from the road to allow the trailer to pass through. As they moved, not quite not quite two minutes, the trailer carrying the container fell on the broken one already lifted .
Immediately after the accident, the driver disappeared while the mechanics in a chat with Gavel International was full of praises to God for the escape from death in the new year.
The accident led to a snarling traffic on the road. Vehicles diverted to the opposite direction to escape, while police and LASTMA officials tried to control the traffic. One of the Drivers’ Union in the area simply known as Ese called on the Federal Government to fix the road before trucks carrying containers fell on people. Je said the fallen trucks are a daily occurrences on the road due to the bad state. He said the bad portion of the road stretched from Ahmadiyya, to the Sango-Ota toll gate.
The two articulated vehicles are still on the road at the time of going to press.
