Spanish High Court orders suspension of Telegram’s services in Spain
Global messaging app, Telegram, has been served a temporary suspension notice on its services by the High Court of Spain
A court source made the order seen by News.ng on Saturday following complaints from media businesses that the firm was permitting users to publish their content without authorization.
While the claims are being looked into, Telegram’s services in Spain will be blocked by Judge Santiago Pedraz.
According to the court source, mobile phone companies would be in charge of blocking Telegram’s services.
Telegram will not be available in Spain as of Monday due to a request from media companies such as Atresmedia, EGEDA, Mediaset, and Telefonica.
Telegram has previously declared that it would launch an advertising platform in March 2024 that would allow channel owners to get paid.
The awards will be given out in toncoin on the TONNE blockchain, according to a statement made by the company’s creator and CEO, Pavel Durov, via his Telegram channel.
Currently, over 800 million people use the social networking site each month from all around the world.
The CEO disclosed that channel owners will get 50% of the money made from advertisements that are shown on their channels under this arrangement.
Competition monitor CNMC claims that Telegram is the fourth most popular messaging app in Spain. In a CNMC survey, about 19% of Spaniards reported using it.
