Nasarawa records six cases of monkeypox
Six confirmed cases of Monkey Pox have been recorded in two local government areas of Nasarawa state.
Commissioner for Health in the state, Mr Ahmed Yahaya Baba stated this during an emergency news briefing in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital.
Mr Ahmed Yahaya gave the breakdown of the six confirmed cases of the disease including four in Lafia and two recorded in Keffi local government areas of the state.
He stated that the state government had activated an Emergency Operational Centre for Monkey Pox with an Incident Manager appointed to check further spread of the disease.
The commissioner also pointed out that the affected persons were receiving treatments at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia and the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
Mr Ahmed Yahaya enumerated some of the ways the disease can be transmitted including direct contact with infectious body rashes, scabs and body fluids of infected persons as well as respiratory discharges
