Many feared dead as tanker explodes in Kogi
A midnight tanker explosion, on Monday, on Lokoja-Felele-Abuja road in Kogi State has claimed many lives.
An eyewitness said the tanker, which was fully loaded with petrol, had a failed break and rammed into other vehicles.
The sources said many persons were burnt beyond recognition, while properties worth millions of naira were lost.
“Tanker explosion is becoming a continuous ritual in Felele-Lokoja-Abuja road. Many People over the years have lost their lives in Felele as a result of tanker explosion and other road accidents. The Federal Government must do something to put a lasting solution to this nightmare in Felele,” the eyewitness said.
The Kogi State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
He, however, said one person died as a result of the incident, while two persons who sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Center Lokoja for medical attention.
According to Dawulung, other victims of the incident escaped.
