Man City Face Liverpool Clash Without Key Players as Erling Haaland’s Fitness Remains in Doubt

Manchester City will be without four key players for their highly anticipated Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday, with manager Pep Guardiola uncertain about the availability of star striker Erling Haaland due to injury.
City, who trail league leaders Liverpool by 17 points, have struggled with injuries and inconsistent form this season. The absence of several key players has further complicated their campaign, and Guardiola faces a selection headache ahead of the crucial match at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri, a pivotal figure in City’s midfield, remains sidelined with a long-term knee ligament injury sustained earlier in the season. Defenders Manel Akanji and John Stones are also unavailable, both nursing thigh injuries, with Akanji requiring surgery. Youngster Oscar Bobb, who suffered a fractured leg earlier this season, is unlikely to feature despite returning to training.
The biggest concern for Guardiola, however, is the fitness of Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker missed City’s recent Champions League defeat to Real Madrid due to a knee injury sustained during their 4-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend. Guardiola expressed hope that Haaland could return for the Liverpool clash but admitted there are no guarantees.
“I don’t know yet. Tomorrow we will know more. Maybe [he will be fit], but I can’t say for sure,” Guardiola said. “We’ll train today, and he’ll be tested tomorrow. Having him on the pitch is always better than not. We’re in this position now, and everyone is responsible for both the good and the bad. With Erling, we’re stronger.”
Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, enter the match as title contenders, while City’s transitional season has seen them fall out of the race. Guardiola’s side will need to overcome their injury woes to challenge the in-form Reds in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
