Flood claims three lives, four injured in Yobe
Flood resulting from a heavy downpour has claimed three persons lives, with four others sustaining injuries in Yobe State.
Dr. Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), said while giving flood updates across 10 affected local government areas of the state.
He said, the affected LGs in the latest disaster are Damaturu, Yunusari, Fika, Geidam, Karasuwa, Jakusko, Yusufari, Bade, Potiskum as well as Nangere.
“Based on the preliminary reports, the worst affected locations include Bulajaji where 58 households were affected and Jebuwa only 34 households with 3 deaths recorded in Maimalari and Jebuwa wards respectively of Yusufari LGA.
“The assessment in Bade, Jakusko, Potiskum, Nangere and Karasuwa in ongoing.
“However, 4 persons (3 adult women, and 1 child ) from Danchua in Danchuwa/Bula ward and Ramin in Dogonini ward in Potiskum LGA and Kanda in Tikau ward of Nangere LGA are currently at the Specialist Hospital, Potiskum receiving free treatment.
“Other locations include: Gabai, in Gabai ward, Damaturu LGA with 47 households affected; Toshia 38 households in Yunusari LGA; Gadaka 33 households, in Fika LGA, and in Geidam LGA, 7 communities were hit by the flooding sacking many homes”, he said.
”While these are trying moments for both victims and community gatekeepers, the Executive Secretary on behalf of the government and the people of the state commiserated with victims and assures them of government’s commitment to respond to their plights.
“Response is being prioritized based on severity and needs with first line attention given to saving lives, evacuation and ensuring women and children have something to eat, while infrastructure is being looked at”, Goje added.
