Ekiti 2022: SDP, YPP, others condemn INEC’s failure to allocate agent tags
Party agents of Social Democratic Party, Young Progressives Party and other party officials have confirmed that many agents do not have tags that would enable them gain access to polling units, ward, local government and state collation centres to monitor the voting process, which holds on Saturday.
They have accused INEC of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress to subvert the will of the people by preventing access to opposing party members.
INEC has promised a free and fair election as a test for future elections in Osun and the 2023 general polls.
They are also complaining that eligible voters who were alerted of the readiness of their PVCs were unable to collect them ahead of today’s voting.
Mr Lanre Olorunsola, Ekiti State Publicity Secretary of the YPP said the party got less than half of the required polling unit agent tags and none at all for the ward, local government and state agents.
According to him, “when we complained to INEC we were told to come back on Friday (yesterday) but we were told that the tags were being printed in Abuja and they were still expecting some more. If we don’t have these tags that means we have no presence at the ward, local government and state collation centers. Surprisingly, the ruling APC had so such complaints. INEC promised to be fair and we see they are doing the exact opposite,” he said.
The YPP spokesman said that the elections were not going to be fair as some parties have been disenfranchised even before the elections claiming that there was sort of collusion going on to deny opposition parties a fair deal.
INEC’s spokesman, Rotimi Oyekanmi was yet to respond to the allegations as at the time of filing this report.
