COVID-19: VSF supports 3,000 households, constructs three boreholes in Sokoto
COVID-19: VSF supports 3,000 households, builds 3 wells in Sokoto
At least 3,000 households in Sokoto state received COVID-19 palliative support on Friday from the Victims Support Fund (VSF), a non-governmental organization (NGO).
The Nigerian News Agency reports that VSF also built three 4,000-litre solar-powered boreholes at three selected schools in the state’s senatorial districts.
The beneficiary schools include Sanyinna Government High School for Girls, Asara Junior High School and Bunkari Government Day High School in the Tambuwal, Gwadabawa and Binji Local Government Areas.
Inaugurating the distribution of palliatives to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Governor Aminu Tambuwal thanked VSF for starting the support program.
Tambuwal, represented by Dr. Ali Inname, the state Health Commissioner, said the gesture would go a long way in meeting the needs of beneficiaries.
He said the state government would make sure the palliatives were properly delivered and distributed to the right people for whom they were intended.
“This is not the first time we have received COVID-19 palliatives and distributed them in the right way.
“In 2020 we received the COVID-19 palliatives to support 52,000 homes, so today’s support is to serve 3,000 homes that will be easily served,” he said.
In her speech, Ms. Toyosi Ogunsiji, President of VSF, said that the exercise is an ongoing part of the distribution of the COVID-19 task force in the 36 states of the federation.
“Sokoto state is the 34th state in the country that we are supporting today with food parcels, medical supplies for COVID-19 prevention, and solar-powered water wells.
“However, the palliatives that are to support 3,000 households are started to alleviate the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Ogunsiji added that the palliative materials include food items, including rice, beans, corn, peanut oil and salt, as well as medical items including hand sanitizers and face masks for the State Ministry of Health.
Also speaking, Hajiya Mariya Tambuwal, wife of the state governor, thanked donors for their support.
Tambuwal, represented by Hajiya Fatima Khalid, stated that the gesture would help the beneficiaries immensely in easing their hardships.
The representative of the CSOs, Malam Rabiu Gandi, valued VSF‘s commitment to alleviate the hardships of the most needy in the country and assured that its different organizations will channel the palliatives towards the beneficiaries.
