Champions League: Phenomenal subs, Rio Ferdinand hails Rodrygo, Camavinga for impressive display against Man City
Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, lauded two Real Madrid stars, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga, for their impressive display against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final second leg tie on Wednesday.
Ferdinand described Rodrygo and Camavinga’s performance as ‘phenomenal subs’ after Real Madrid defeated Man City at the Santiago Bernabeu.
A brace from Rodrygo and a strike from Karim Benzema ensured the LaLiga champions defeated Pep Guardiola’s side 3-1.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side will now face Liverpool in the Champions League final later this month.
“They have been here, they have seen it so many times. These boys look around, trust in each other, and most of all in this crowd. This crowd, man. They pushed this team over the line. Rodrygo and [Eduardo] Camavinga, phenomenal subs,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
He added, “This team have been comfortable suffering. PSG, Chelsea, they were suffering. They never panicked for one minute. They were comfortable in uncomfortable situations. They crossed, scored, and the whole place changed.
“The stadium took the life out of City. You saw the weight of history, the size of the stadium.
“Every single time this Real Madrid team pegged Manchester City back.
“They never seemed in total control. It wasn’t the convincing City.
“Real Madrid proves time and time again that they will get chances. I was on edge for City.”
