Breaking: APC govs prune presidential aspirants to five hours to national convention

Hours to the special national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), governors elected on the platform of the party have pruned the number of presidential aspirants contesting for party’s ticket to five.

The presidential primary election is scheduled to start by 11am at the Eagle Sqaure in Abuja, today, Tuesday morning.

The five shortlisted names to President Muhammadu Buhari include Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Rotimi  Amaechi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Dave Umahi and Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The names reflected the three geopolitical zone in the South in line with the APC Northern governors’ position that power should shift to the South.

Hitherto, there were 13 presidential aspirants cleared by the screening committee of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun from the 23 who collected the nomination forms.
However, the northern APC governors later met and asked for the zoning of the ticket to the Southern part of the country and tjat all aspirants from the northern part of the country should withdraw.
The position is against the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, who was pushing for the Senate President, Senator Lawan as a consensus candidate.
