Afenifere condemns gunmen’s attack on Owo Catholic Church

The umbrella Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, on Sunday, condemned the attack on the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo town, Ondo State.
Scores of people were reportedly killed during an attack on the church on Owa-luwa Street in the community.
A statement by Afenifere’s Secretary, Apagun Kole Omololu, said the incident was a direct attack on the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, as well as Yoruba land.
According to him, the attack is directed at Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his unflinching support for security in Yoruba land by championing the Amotekun security outfit.
The group said the governor’s stringent upholding of the open grazing law and for his ‘big mouth’ about Southern co-operation for equity and justice in Nigeria must have been responsible.
He said the group will not succumb to terrorist threats or attacks,.
The statement added that they will not be allowed to bring down their civilisation, just as it vowed to hunt the killers down.
It warned the residents in the state not to take laws into their hands by any act of criminality or attacking innocent and law-abiding residents in the state.
The statement stated that in no distance time, the culprits would be caught, just as it advised the relatives of the victims to remain calm.
