59-year-old farmer remanded in custody over alleged defilement of minor

A Magistrates Court has ordered the remand of a 59-year- old farmer, AbdulGaniu Mohammed on Tuesday over alleged sexual assault of a minor.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that one AbdulGafar Mohammed allegedly defiled his younger sister.

The magistrates court, presided over by Magistrate Muhammad Dansuki, was told that the defendant allegedly inserted his finger into the victim’s private part, claiming he wanted to know the cause of her bed-wetting.

The defendant allegedly took undue advantage of the victim and deceitfully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

The prosecutor, Zacchaeus Folorunsho, informed the court that the case was not ordinarily bailable.

He further argued that granting the defendant bail would hamper the course of justice.

Trial Magistrate Dansuki, who presided over the matter, ordered the remand of the defendant in the Correctional facility while the matter was adjourned till the 6th of June,2022.
