20 injured, shops razed as explosion rocks Kano
A least 20 persons were said to have been injured and many shops razed down in another explosion that occurred at Sheka quarters in Kumbotso local government area of Kano State.
The gas explosion occurred around 8pm on Thursday night at a gas cylinder refilling shop.
A resident of the area, Malam Idi was quoted by Vanguard as saying the gas exploded and went into flames leading to the number of casualties and burning down of shops.
He said the incident affected mostly persons in the gas shop and other businesses owners in adjacent shops.
Last month a similar explosion left nine dead, with schoolchildren injured, in what police later said was an IED.
The spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident putting the figure of victims affected at 20.
Yusif further said the affected victims have been evacuated to the hospital by the firemen deployed to the scene by the Service.
He attributed the cause of the incident to a man frying and selling fish near the gas shop.
