Super Eagles

World Cup qualifier: Lookman, Okoye, Ajayi, five others still expected to join Super Eagles camp

More players are still expected to join the Super Eagles camp, including Atalanta FC winger Ademola Lookman, Maduka Okoye, Semi Ajayi, and five other players for 2026 World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Fifteen players who are already in camp include Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Alhassan Yusuf, Chidozie Awaziem, Ojo Olorunleke, Ismaila Sodiq, Ibrahim Olawoyin, and Benjamin Tanimu.

Other players in camp are Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Samuel Chukwueze, Stanley Nwabali, Terem Moffi, Victor Boniface, and Raphael Onyedika.

The new coach of the Super Eagles, George Finidi, said he is upbeat about the chances of the Super Eagles ahead of the games against Bafana Bafana of South Africa and Benin Republic.

Finidi said both games are must-wins for his team for them to be comfortable in the group.

“These are must-win games for us to be comfortable in our group. I believe we will win both games.

“We have to believe we can win; the (2023) AFCON is gone, we now have to put in the effort to win again,” he stressed.

Finidi is now focused on leading the Super Eagles to success in the next two World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic in Uyo and Abidjan, respectively.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are third in Group C of the African campaign, are behind South Africa and Rwanda. The team is now condemned to win both games.
