Wike’s NEC sets March 28-29, 2026 for PDP National Convention in Abuja
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved March 28 and 29, 2026, as the dates for the party’s National Convention, to be held in Abuja.
This decision was reached during the PDP’s 105th NEC meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
In a statement jointly signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Committee, the NEC stated that the resolutions followed extensive deliberations on the state of the party, the prevailing political environment, recent judicial developments, and preparations for forthcoming internal processes.
The NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified, and reaffirmed all resolutions from its Emergency 104th meeting on December 7, 2025, declaring that all actions taken pursuant to those resolutions remain binding, lawful, and in full force.
Emphasizing its commitment to the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, the committee welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative arrangements and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee.
Furthermore, the NEC affirmed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the National Convention and subsequent state and zonal congresses.
The NEC mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and begin full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
Calling for unity, discipline, and loyalty, the NEC urged party members at all levels to avoid actions capable of undermining party cohesion and to place the collective interest of the PDP above personal considerations.
The committee reiterated the PDP’s commitment to rebuilding a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive party, expressing confidence that the resolutions of the 105th NEC meeting would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and reposition the party for future electoral success.
Stakeholders, supporters, and members of the PDP at home and in the diaspora were also urged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of the party.
