Wike Vows to Reallocate Revoked Abuja Lands After Grace Period Ends
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said he would reallocate all revoked lands if affected allottees fail to meet the January 3 deadline to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).
Speaking after inspecting key projects in Abuja, including the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) and Saburi-Dei Dei Road, Wike emphasized that the grace period, announced on December 20, would not be extended.
Owners of the 762 revoked plots in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, were given two weeks to comply by paying for their C of O. Failure to do so will result in final revocation and redistribution of the lands.
“The grace period will not be extended. After January 3, we will reallocate the lands to others who are interested,” Wike said, highlighting that compliance with laws is essential for development.
He explained that the defaulters’ list was generated under the previous administration and stressed the importance of paying for C of O to validate land ownership.
While acknowledging cases where payments have been made but receipts not issued, Wike assured remedies for such scenarios. However, he maintained that further extensions would not be considered.
“Our goal isn’t to take back the lands but to generate revenue for FCT development. Roads and other projects depend on compliance and payments from land allottees,” he added.
