Why I stick with Atiku, reject Tinubu for 2027  – Tambuwal

Senator Aminu Tambuwal has publicly declared his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over President Bola Tinubu in a potential 2027 presidential contest. The former Governor of Sokoto State also firmly ruled out any possibility of defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Tambuwal stated that President Tinubu is not the same person he once collaborated with during the struggle for democracy.

“If Atiku is running and Bola Tinubu is, I will not support Tinubu,” Tambuwal said. Regarding a potential run by Peter Obi, he added, “On Obi if that situation presents itself, I will decide.”

Explaining his steadfast opposition to the APC, Tambuwal called it a “personal decision,” citing his disapproval of the party’s governance. “I will not join APC… I do not believe in the way the country is being run currently,” he emphasized.

He recalled his role as the Director-General of Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign, noting that he had warned Nigerians about the potential for hardship under a Tinubu administration.

“We went round this country to warn Nigerians against voting for Tinubu and his party,” Tambuwal said. “I can’t say that I’m disappointed because it’s clear, he is appearing to be different from what I knew of him in the past.”

The lawmaker pointed to his foresight, stating, “I saw the way APC was driving Nigeria to where it is today as far back in 2018 and I left in August 2018.”
