Violence Mars APC Gov Primary in Anambra as Soludo Wins APGA ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary for the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election in Anambra State was disrupted by violence on Saturday, as thugs allegedly loyal to one of the aspirants hijacked the accreditation process.
Suspected thugs and private security operatives took over the venue’s entrance, barricading it for hours and preventing accredited delegates from entering.
Only individuals bearing the branded ID cards of a particular aspirant were allowed access, while delegates supporting other candidates were turned away, harassed, and in some cases, physically assaulted. Journalists were also denied entry.
Valentine Ozigbo’s campaign spokesperson, Ephraim Adiele, condemned the incident, calling it an attempt to “hijack the primary through intimidation and force.”
He stated, “We reject the politics of violence and demand a level-playing field.”
Meanwhile, accreditation continued amidst chaos, leaving many delegates unable to participate.
Incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo was declared the winner after running unopposed, securing over 300 votes in the Awka primary.
In a separate development, George Moughalu, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate after defeating John Nwosu with 573 votes to 19.
The primary, monitored by INEC and observers, recorded 592 valid votes out of 601 accredited delegates.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) postponed its primary from April 5 to April 8. State Chairman Chidi Chidebe attributed the delay to administrative preparations, stating, “With the confusion in other parties, it’s clear PDP is not the problem.”
