US delivers military supplies to bolster Nigerian security operations
The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigerian security agencies to bolster security operations in several parts of the country.
This delivery was disclosed in a post via X on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The post stated, “U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja.
This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership.”
The Federal Government had previously stated that the US government affirmed its readiness to deepen security cooperation, including providing enhanced intelligence support and defence equipment to reinforce operations against terrorists and violent extremist groups.
This follows a delegation dispatched to Washington last November, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, aimed at strengthening security partnerships.
The delegation included officials such as the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Inspector General of Police.
During those meetings, the Nigerian delegation refuted allegations of genocide in Nigeria, emphasizing that violent attacks affect communities across religious and ethnic lines and rejecting what it called a wrongful framing of the situation.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that the discussions provided an opportunity to correct misconceptions and forge a constructive partnership.
Both countries agreed to implement a non-binding cooperation framework and establish a Joint Working Group for a unified approach.
The Nigerian delegation reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening civilian protection measures.
The Federal Government also urged citizens to remain assured that coordinated steps are being taken to secure the nation.
The United States expressed willingness to extend complementary support, including humanitarian assistance to affected populations in the Middle Belt and technical support for early-warning mechanisms.
