Update: Death toll in Niger fuel tanker explosion hits 60

Death toll in Niger State petrol tanker explosion has risen to 60, Ibrahim Husseini, spokesperson for the Niger State Emergency Management Agency said.

Husseini said on Monday that more bodies were pulled out of burnt vehicles, with three people succumbed badly injuried.

According to him, “The agency’s rapid response team recovered nine dead bodies, pulling out some under the rubbles of the burnt vehicles.”

A fuel tanker exploded following a collision with another truck in the Agie area.

Authorities confirmed over 50 cattle were burnt alive due to the explosion.

The state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, described the incident as unfortunate, extending his sympathy to the bereaved families and communities.
