Update: Court sets aside New Emirate Law, reinstates Bayero as Kano Emir

All steps taken by Kano State government regarding the repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law have been set aside by the Federal High Court in Kano.
Indeed, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had signed the new Kano Emirates Council Law and dethroned Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir of Kano.
He also cancelling other four emirates, including Bichi, Rano Karaye and Gaya, which were created by his immediate predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The governor relying on the new law, which was passed by the state House of Assembly, re-appoint the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was dethroned by Ganduje in 2020, as the 16th Emir of Kano.
However, a kingmaker in the former Kano emirate, Aminu Babba Danagundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba, filed a suit against the new law, asking the court, through his counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), to declare the law null and void.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano set aside the steps taken by the state government and ordered parties to maintain status quo.
