The injured victims, including a 13-year-old girl, were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased, identified as Harisu and Najibu Ibrahim, were taken to the hospital morgue.

Kuchibiyu, an agrarian community on the outskirts of Kubwa, was thrown into chaos following the incident.

However, the FCT Police Command confirmed the explosion, identifying it as an improvised explosive device (IED) that detonated at approximately 11:00 AM at the Tsangayar Sani Uthman school.

Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh stated that the explosion occurred when three visitors, suspected to have brought the IED, tampered with the device on the school veranda.

Two of them were killed, while the third suspect and a female trader sustained severe injuries. The police also detained the school’s proprietor, Mallam Ashimu, for questioning, and investigations are ongoing.

An eyewitness, Fauziyya Iliya, a 13-year-old victim, narrated from her hospital bed that one of the deceased, Harisu, showed her the object, claiming he had found it near a mountain.

He placed it near her soya bean cake (awara) stand, joking about taking some cakes in exchange for the object. Moments later, the device exploded, injuring her legs and hand.

Fauziyya’s mother, Salamatu Lawal, recounted hearing the explosion and finding her injured daughter crawling back home.

Also, the chairman of Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya, visited the scene and confirmed the explosion occurred at the school.

He revealed that the students affected had recently arrived from Katsina, allegedly brought by a religious teacher. Gabaya directed the police to interrogate the teacher.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or items to the authorities. Emergency contact numbers were provided for reporting potential threats.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, aiming to ensure the safety of the community.
