First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu

Trump’s praise for Nigerian First Lady signals thaw in relations, says Senator Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District lawmaker Shehu Sani has indicated that a previously “hardened” international stance towards Nigeria is beginning to ease.

Sani made this observation in a statement on his verified social media account, following an invitation extended to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Mrs. Tinubu attended the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast on Capitol Hill.

At the event, President Trump publicly acknowledged the First Lady, stating, “We are honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at one of the largest churches. A very respected woman.”

In reaction, Shehu Sani wrote: “The First Lady has gotten public recognition and respect from President Trump. A hardened stance on the country is now softening, courtesy of adept diplomatic engagement. We hope for the best.”
