Truecaller uses Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech to make a ‘personal voice’ answer your phone call

With the collaboration of Truecaller and Microsoft, users can now have AI answer calls in their voices using Microsoft’s Personal Voice from Azure AI Speech.
Raphael Mimoun, product director and general manager of Trucaller, while confirming the update said that the new feature is a significant step “towards delivering a truly personalized and engaging communication experience.”
Telegram first unveiled its AI assistant in 2022, which is capable of taking calls and screening them for consumers.
The personal voice feature of Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech allows customers to create a bespoke digital assistant that sounds like them, in addition to the various voices it already supports.
“The personal voice feature allows our users to use their own voice, enabling the digital assistant to sound like them when handling incoming calls.
“This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants,” Mimoun stated.
Newsng gathered that users of the Truecaller app can now record a brief speech sample using Personal speech.
Then, using this sample, Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech technology imitates the user’s speech digitally. The AI Assistant can use this to screen unknown numbers, answer calls, and leave messages for users.
With its Personal Voice function, the smartphone app hopes to stop scammers in India from utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to impersonate friends to deceive people out of money. This raises concerns about the possible abuse of voice cloning technology.
