Tragedy as thunder strike kills referee during match in Niger
Tragedy occurred during a friendly football match in Madalla town Niger State, when thunder suddenly struck a referee to death.
The deceased referee simply known as Mustafa Coach 02, was said to be a member of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFA).
Report stated that he met his tragic death Tuesday evening during the match played in the community’s primary and secondary schools’ field.
The match was said to be in the rain and footballers and fans were said to be taking refuge inside the school’s classrooms.
The referee along with his assistant (line man) was said to have rushed back to the field, insisting the players must join them.
“They were only at the centre of the pitch when the thunder struck. Two of them were rushed to a hospital, where Sulaiman was confirmed dead on arrival while his assistant was revived,” a witness said.
