Traditional ruler’s son beaten to death in Ikorodu amid cult dispute
A young man named Quadri, identified as the son of a traditional ruler, was beaten to death in the Itunmeko area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, around midnight on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
The neighbourhood is reportedly dominated by members of the Eiye cult group.
Residents said the attackers targeted several youths, including Quadri, who was described as the son of the Alashe of Itunmoja. Though he had close ties with Eiye members, he was not believed to be a cultist.
The violence began after a dispute broke out between some youths and a local Eiye leader also named Quadri, known as Kamson. The victim was reportedly woken from sleep and went to the scene.
While a friend managed to flee, Quadri and another youth, Adio, were severely beaten. Quadri later died at a hospital; Adio survived.
It was also alleged that the victim had previously resisted attempts to initiate him into the cult, despite his close associations.
He was said to have been shot last year during an attack by a rival group at a social event.
Residents claimed the group wields influence in the area through intimidation and extortion.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command dismissed circulating messages about possible cult-related reprisals in areas such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and Ishaga.
The command said it has taken proactive measures, including intensified patrols and strategic deployments, to prevent any breakdown of order.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, urged residents to remain calm, ignore unverified information, and rely on official sources.
