Toyota to invest $282m in Huntsville plant, create 350 new jobs

Motor manufacturing giant, Toyota, is investing $282 million to increase production in Huntsville.

This will add more than 350 new jobs in the process and Governor Kay Ivey said nearly $1.7 billion has been invested in Alabama overall.

Along with engine production, the expansion will bring new drivetrain product production lines with Toyota Alabama, which employs more than 2,000 people, producing more than 770,000 engines in 2023, the biggest engine manufacturer in North America.

“Toyota has been a critical partner within Alabama’s growing auto industry for over two decades, launching multiple expansions that have increased the Huntsville facility’s production capabilities and its superb workforce,” said Governor Ivey.

“This new investment project will build on the great legacy of Toyota’s Alabama engine plant and create even more new opportunities for the area’s citizens.”

Since production started there in 2003, Newsng gathered that Toyota’s Huntsville facility has developed into a powerhouse for engines, and this project adds new drivetrain product lines.

“Thanks to our Alabama team members’ daily commitment to quality and continuous improvement, we know they can rise to the challenge of all-new production lines,” said Jason Puckett, Toyota Alabama president.

“The new lines will further increase the plant’s flexibility and reaffirm Toyota’s commitment to our team and community,” he added.

The project, according to the press release, boosts Toyota’s stake in Alabama to $1.7 billion. Toyota and Mazda jointly operate vehicle manufacturing in Huntsville.

“This is great news for Toyota and for the Huntsville community,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle in a release. “The addition of drivetrain products to Toyota Alabama continues the company’s legacy of staying on the forefront of industry needs, which in turn, provides more employment opportunities for North Alabama.”

Earlier report stated that Toyota Motor demonstrated innovative engine technologies for several vehicle types, such as hybrid and bi-fuel vehicles, to display its latest advancements in automotive technology.
