Tiwa Savage Ends Five-Year Hiatus, Unveils New Album: ‘This One Is Personal’

After a five-year wait, Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage is set to make her highly anticipated return with a new album,

“This One Is Personal,” scheduled for release on August 29.

This marks her first full-length project since the 2020 album Celia.

Savage announced the news on her X account on Tuesday, describing the 13-track record as an intimate Afrobeats journey exploring themes of pain, growth, and resilience.

Recorded across Nashville, London, and Lagos, the album is notably sparse on features, with only UK rapper Skepta and rising star Taves making guest appearances.

Savage emphasized the intentionality behind these choices in a fan Q&A on X.

“I wanted you all to feel me in every song. The few features I chose were very intentional, with people who understood the vision and could add to the message without taking away from its intimacy,” she explained.

“It’s less about numbers and more about connection.”

Savage revealed that the project is a reflection of her personal journey over the past five years, a period during which she balanced significant career transitions, motherhood, and self-discovery.

The announcement has ignited excitement among her global fanbase, who have flooded social media with the hashtag #ThisOneIsPersonal to engage with the singer as she shares insights into the album’s creation and the stories behind each track.
