Sources close to the Presidency indicated that some portfolios may split and others merged, leading also to some ministers being relieved of their duties.

Indeed, there have been pressures on President Tinubu both from within and outside his party, the All Progressives Congress, to reshuffle his cabinet after one year in office, doing away with deadwood and underperform ministers.

Over 10 months ago, the President had emphasized on monitoring performance of his ministers and to do away with underperforming ones.

Specifically, in November, after a three-day retreat for cabinet members and presidential aides, the president set up a Central Delivery Coordination Unit headed by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Mrs. Hadiza Bala-Usman. The body is aimed at measuring the performance of ministers and other top government officials.

According Tinubu, “If you are performing, nothing to fear. If you miss the objective, we’ll review it. If no performance, you leave us. No one is an island and the buck stops on my desk.”

Over some months ago, news of impending cabinet reshuffle was said to be imminent, but the cabinet had remained largely intact, except for the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, over allegations of corruotion

Currently, indications arr that the reshuffle is imminent and would go as much as portfolio swaps, scrapping of some portfolios.

Consequently, the troublesome Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, whose minister, Dr. Betta Edu, was suspended in January, becomes an easy target.

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development was established in August 2019 by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
