Breaking: Wike, Fubara, Ogoni leaders, others meet Tinubu in Abuja

Tinubu steps into Rivers crisis, summons Wike for meeting abroad

President Bola Tinubu has intervened to mediate the escalating political conflict in Rivers State between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to sources, Tinubu has summoned Wike for a meeting outside Nigeria, likely in Dubai.

Governor Fubara is also reported to have traveled abroad, with plans to meet the President in France.

This development follows renewed impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy by members of the State Assembly loyal to Wike.

A presidential source stated that Tinubu views the minister’s actions as a direct challenge to his authority and a threat to national stability.

The source warned that pushing to remove the state’s first Ijaw governor could provoke unrest among Ijaw youth, potentially disrupting oil production and harming the economyβ€”a risk the President is determined to prevent.

While a senior aide acknowledged unawareness of the specific meeting, it was confirmed that Tinubu is currently in France and will later travel to Abu Dhabi.

The aide noted that Wike would likely only make such a trip if summoned by the President, reiterating that Tinubu recognizes governors as the leaders of their party within their respective states.
