Tinubu presides over APC National Convention as party charts course for 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is presiding over the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Eagle Square, Abuja, where top party leaders, members of the Federal Executive Council, governors, and 8,453 delegates have convened for the high-stakes gathering expected to shape the ruling party’s leadership and strategic direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The two-day convention, held Friday and Saturday under the theme “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” will culminate in the emergence of new party leaders and a reaffirmation of the APC’s policy direction under the Tinubu administration.

The convention is being coordinated by the planning committee chaired by Rt. Hon. Aminu Masari, former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In his opening remarks, Masari declared that the APC is committed to building a stronger and more equitable Nigeria.

“This convention is not a routine jugglery; it is a solemn assembly, a historic moment, and a powerful reminder of the strength of our democracy. It is here that we will affirm our values, renew our commitments, and chart the path for our party and our country.

“The APC was built on conviction, sustained by sacrifice, and strengthened by the loyalty of millions of Nigerians who believe in the promise of progress, justice, and unity. Today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the most consequential reformer of our time, leads us forward,” he added.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, described President Tinubu as a statesman whose reforms are beginning to deliver tangible impact on Nigerians. He reaffirmed the commitment of APC governors to sustain support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the party remains united in its resolve to deepen governance reforms and improve citizens’ welfare.

Uzodimma urged party members to uphold discipline, unity, and service, stressing that the convention is a defining moment for consolidation rather than division. He emphasised that the APC remains strong, cohesive, and forward-looking, with a shared commitment to advancing national development and strengthening democratic governance.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, emphasised that the party’s strength lies in its commitment to inclusiveness and cohesion, which have sustained its growth over the years. The Governors’ Forum Chairman urged party members to continue to uphold dialogue, inclusion, and empowerment as guiding principles, stressing that these values remain critical to deepening internal democracy and national development.

AbdulRazaq requested a minute of silence to honour the victims of insecurity and other departed Nigerians.

Addressing delegates, AbdulRazaq described the convention as a defining moment in shaping the legacy of the ruling party, noting that the APC’s endurance is rooted in its ability to unite Nigerians across diverse backgrounds. He also commended President Tinubu for ongoing reforms, stating that the administration’s policies are creating wealth and repositioning the nation’s economy for sustainable growth.

Top government and party figures in attendance include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, ministers, and former principal officers of the National Assembly, such as Dimeji Bankole, Patricia Etteh, and Yakubu Dogara, among many others.

Dele Fashomi is now the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Newstide247.com newspaper online, which he started in July 2015. He is also into biography writing, with many books in his trail, some of which he wrote alone and one he co- authored with his mentor, Mr Dare Babarinsa, entitled:  Olabiyi Durojaiye – DARE TO BE DiFFERENT.
