Tinubu orders rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls, strengthen security
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate rescue of abducted Kebbi schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, and strengthen the nation’s internal security.
In a statement, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed the government’s “deep concern and solidarity” with the families of the abducted students. He condemned the attack, which also resulted in the killing of school officials.
Idris stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the state’s fundamental duty to protect all Nigerians, especially children. To that end, security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives.
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” Idris said. “The Nigerian Government will not relent until this objective is achieved.”
The Minister outlined a broader strategy to prevent future attacks, stating that the government is actively “recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities.” The goal is to enable faster and more precise responses to security threats.
Furthermore, Nigeria is reinforcing cooperation with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure borders and disrupt terrorist and criminal networks.
The government has urged the public to “remain calm and confident” as these security measures are implemented.
