Tinubu hosts APC National Caucus, welcomes six defected PDP governors at strategy meeting
President Bola Tinubu convened a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday evening, marking a significant gathering to align the party’s strategy ahead of upcoming political events.
The meeting was notable for the attendance of six sitting governors who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
They were joined by other prominent former PDP figures now in the APC, including ex-Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and former Senate Presidents Anyim Pius Anyim and Ken Nnamani.
The rescheduled meeting, which was moved from December 15-16 to December 18-19, served as a strategic consultation to reinforce party unity, discipline, and consensus before the larger National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Insiders described it as crucial for harmonizing positions, reviewing priorities, and ensuring cohesion across all geopolitical zones, particularly as the party looks toward the 2027 election cycle.
The caucus, comprising the party’s top echelon, saw the presence of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
President Tinubu arrived at the venue at 7:38 p.m. to lead the discussions, which were also viewed as a confidence-building measure following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, aiming to project stability and continuity within the ruling party.
