Tinubu: Datti Baba-Ahmed Casts Doubt on Opposition Coalition, Says Will Crash Before 2027 Polls

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has expressed doubts about the sustainability of the opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in 2027.
Baba-Ahmed, who spoke on Arise News, questioned the coalition’s stability, particularly if key figures like Peter Obi or Chibuike Amaechi fail to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.
Despite the excitement surrounding the alliance, the businessman and university administrator cautioned, “I think we should not be swept away by this coalition. You have key players—Peter Obi, Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, and possibly Nasir El-Rufai—coming together from diverse backgrounds with varied interests.”
Highlighting the potential for internal conflict, he noted that Obi, Amaechi, and Atiku are strong contenders. “How will the contest play out? These three are very close in the race. If one wins, will the other two remain in the coalition?”
Baba-Ahmed drew parallels to past political rivalries, highlighted that the coalition, which has adopted the ADC as its platform for the 2027 elections, includes prominent figures like former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Senate President David Mark.
Baba-Ahmed’s remarks suggest that without a clear resolution on leadership, the opposition alliance could fracture before the next general elections.
