Terrorists attack Niger Catholic school, abduct staff, pupils

Armed terrorists attacked Saint Mary’s Catholic School inPapiri, Niger State, on Friday, October 21, 2025, abducting yet-to-be ascertained number of pupils and staff.

The latest attack targeted the Christian school, where the state government had already ordered the temporary closure of all boarding schools due to rising security threats.

While details remain unclear but residents fear that close to 100 students and staff may have been taken away during the early-morning raid.

Efforts to get more information on the incident proved abortive as the spokesperson of state Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, did not take his call when contacted.

This incident comes a few days after terrorists attacked a government school in Kebbi State, abducting at least 25 students.

Nigeria has faced a renewed wave of attacks by armed groups in recent days, including the kidnapping on Monday of more than 20 schoolgirls, who are Muslim, from a boarding school in nearby Kebbi State.
