The TCN, which confirmed the full restoration of electricity nationwide, stated an explosion at a transformer in the Jebba Transmission Substation made them to triggered the activation of the protection system.

Ndidi Mba, TCN spokesperson, on Saturday, explained that following the incident, the commission’s team of engineers conducted a switching operation, leading to the complete restoration of the electricity supply.

The TCN’s statement reads:

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby states that the national grid experienced a temporary disturbance at about 8:15 am, today, 19th Oct. 2024.

“According to the report from the NCC, the bus section of a current transformer exploded at 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation and as expected, the protection system was activated, and this promptly opened the busbars to curtail the explosion, thereby preventing the outbreak of fire and further damage to adjacent equipment.

“The action of the protection system led to a temporary disturbance on the grid.

“Our engineers at Jebba have successfully carried out switchings, isolating the faulty current transformer. They have equally reconfigured the busbar arrangement, restoring power supply to the station, and other parts of the grid.”

Newstide247.com had reported Nigeria’s national grid had collapsed again, the third time in a week, causing anguish for Nigerian electricity consumers and plunged the country into another round of blackouts just 24 hours after it was restored.

Various distribution companies (DisCos) in the country, on Tuesday, confirmed the collapse around 9am this morning.

Although, the DisCos said efforts were ongoing to restore power, the recurring collapses have consistently been a nightmare and frustration for citizens and businesses already struggling with the inconsistent power supply.

For Ikeja DisCo, it stated in a statement that: “Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today 15/10/24 @ 09:17hrs affecting supply within our network.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

Also, Eko DisCo said:

“Dear Valued Customer,

“Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored. Kindly bear with us.”

The collapse of the national grid system is the sixth time in 2024.

All distribution companies are currently receiving no power from the grid, leaving their feeders without electricity.
