Taraba Gov. to defect from PDP to APC on Wednesday

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has announced he will officially leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) this Wednesday.

This move represents another significant setback for the opposition PDP, which has recently lost four other serving governors to the ruling party.

Governor Kefas confirmed his decision over the weekend while assessing renovation progress at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.

He stated, “I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC on November 19. This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba.”

When questioned if his defection was based on specific political conditions, Kefas asserted that the choice was unconditional and “guided solely by what we believe is best for Taraba State.”

The defection highlights the PDP’s escalating internal divisions, weakened national structure, and its struggle to retain major figures amidst the APC’s expanding influence.

In a show of solidarity, the state’s Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, declared that all political appointees and allies would follow the governor to the APC.

“The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him,” Aruwa said, explaining that joining the APC-led federal government is a strategic move to fast-track infrastructure and economic development in the state.
