Suspended Gov. Fubara Meets Wike Again in Abuja Amid Political Crisis

Suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has reportedly held another meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.

According to sources, Fubara visited Wike at his residence on Monday, continuing his efforts to mend their strained relationship and resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

A source familiar with the matter said the meeting clarified a recently circulated photo of the two leaders was old but that fresh discussions took place this week.

Fubara, who succeeded Wike as governor in 2023, fell out with his predecessor over political control in Rivers State. The conflict escalated, leading to a divided State House of Assembly and heightened tensions.

On March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator to prevent further instability. The move followed threats by Niger Delta militants to attack oil installations in response to the political crisis.

Since his suspension, Fubara has engaged in talks with key figures, including President Tinubu—whom he met in London and Lagos—and Wike, his former ally-turned-political rival.

Wike has publicly referred to Fubara as his “son” and urged him to reconcile with other stakeholders in Rivers State. However, there are no confirmed reports of Fubara meeting with other political leaders in the state as his suspension enters its third month.

The latest meeting suggests ongoing behind-the-scenes negotiations, but whether it will lead to a lasting resolution remains uncertain. Political observers await further developments as the state remains under emergency administration.
