Super Eagles Climb to 43rd in Latest FIFA Rankings, Now Sixth in Africa

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have risen one spot to 43rd in the world in the first FIFA men’s ranking of 2025, released on Thursday. Despite the improvement, the West African side slipped to sixth place in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire. 

Under coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles recorded mixed results in their recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, defeating Rwanda 2-0 in Kigali before being held to a 1-1 draw by Zimbabwe in Uyo. 

World champions Argentina retained their position as the top-ranked team globally, followed by Spain, France, England, and Brazil, who all held their spots in the top five.
