Sultan Confirms March 30 as Eid-el-Fitr, End of 29-Day Ramadan
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially announced Sunday, March 30, as Eid-el-Fitr, signaling the beginning of Shawwal. The declaration follows the sighting of the new moon, concluding the 29-day Ramadan fasting period.
In a broadcast on Saturday evening, March 29, the Sultan confirmed that the Shawwal crescent was sighted in several northern states, including Kaduna, Bauchi, and Zamfara. He extended his congratulations to the Muslim community and wished them a joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Earlier, the Emir of Ilorin had issued a statement referencing the Sultan’s directive, while the NSCIA Secretary-General, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, also verified the moon sighting. The announcement brings an end to this year’s Ramadan observance in Nigeria.
