The Presidency has strongly rebuked Senator Ali Ndume for alleging lopsided political appointments in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, dismissing his claims as hypocritical and misleading.

Reacting to Ndume’s accusations of federal character violations, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga countered that the Borno South lawmaker was engaging in “selective perception” and “headline-chasing.”

The Presidency noted that prominent appointments from Ndume’s own region, including two kinsmen in top NNPC positions, contradict his allegations.

“Senator Ndume’s baseless claims reek of hypocrisy,” Onanuga stated, highlighting that the NNPC Chairman hails from the Senator’s senatorial district. “If appointments were truly tribal, how did his kinsmen secure these strategic roles?”

The statement characterized Ndume as “allergic to facts and addicted to theatrics,” accusing him of prioritizing divisive rhetoric over constructive engagement. “His pattern of making factually deficient claims only to be disproven shows he’s more interested in stirring controversy than nation-building,” Onanuga added.

Reaffirming Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance, the Presidency emphasized that appointments are strictly merit-based with due consideration for national spread.

“President Tinubu is building a government that represents all Nigerians, where competence trumps ethnic considerations,” the statement read.

The Presidency concluded by urging Ndume to adopt more responsible discourse: “We expect a Senator to elevate national conversations, not propagate misinformation that divides the nation.”
