Speculation swirls in Kano as Govt House NNPP Flags are removed

Flags of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) were removed from the Kano State Government House on Monday evening, sparking rumors of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NNPP flags, which had previously flown alongside the national flag, were no longer visible at the seat of power.

The Governor’s office and the party have not issued any official statement regarding the change.

In place of party symbols, only the Nigerian flag was displayed around the premises—a noticeable shift since the NNPP assumed office in 2023.

Adding to the speculation, supporters wearing red caps bearing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s insignia were seen near the Government House.

While some observers consider this a routine political display, others interpret it as a sign of an impending realignment.

The absence of official comment has heightened public curiosity and debate within Kano over the governor’s next political move.
