Shockwaves reverbrate as Dangote Refinery Discloses Priority Areas After Successful Takeoff

The Dangote Refinery has begun production as scheduled, sending jitters across the African countries and attracting a flurry of congratulations from Nigerians.
A video of a ship carrying crude oil circulating on social media is said to have berthed at the facility.
The refinery management said that the facility will focus on the Nigerian market before exporting to other countries.
That Dangote Petroleum Refinery is expected to sell the product cheaper hss sent jitters in the global oil market.
This was just as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals plant confirmed the purchase of one million barrels of crude oil of Agbami grade from Shell Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO), one of the largest trading companies in Nigeria and globally, which trades over eight million barrels of crude oil per day.
According to a statement, the STASCO cargo contained one million barrels from Agbami and sailed to Dangote Refinery’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) where it was discharged into the refinery’s crude oil tanks.
The company said the maiden one million barrels, which represented the first phase of the six million barrels of crude oil to be supplied to Dangote Petroleum Refinery by a range of suppliers, should sustain the initial 350,000 barrels per day to be processed by the facility.
“The next four cargoes will be supplied by the NNPC in two to three weeks and the final of the six cargoes will be supplied by ExxonMobil”, the statement noted.
It added that the supply would facilitate the initial run of the refinery as well as kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) before subsequently progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol.
This latest development would play a pivotal role in alleviating the fuel supply challenges faced by Nigeria as well as the West African countries.
Nigerians have, indeed, been reacting to the takeoff of the Dangote Refinery after the $20 billion facility began production.
The refinery has twice postponed production, as confirmed by the refinery management, which received its first crude oil shipment from the Agbami oil field operated by Chevron.
Former President Muhammadu stated: “Aliko the magician️” as he also saw a video of a ship loaded with crude oil was circulating on social media.
Indeed, this was believed to be the shipment meant for Africa’s largest refinery. An oil tanker carrying about 950,000 barrels of crude berthed at the offshore crude receiving terminal at about 7 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2023.
The refinery had revealed that it would focus on the Nigerian market before exporting refined products to other markets.
According to reports, the refinery is projected to generate about 100,000 jobs in the country when fully operational.
However, Nigerians have taken to social media to congratulate Aliko Dangote and the refinery management for the successful takeoff of the 650,000 bpd-capacity refinery.
Bashir Ahmad, former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, said the event marks a significant milestone for Nigeria and the Dangote Group.
He said: “Heartfelt congratulations to Alhaji @AlikoDangote on the successful takeoff of the Dangote Refinery. The monumental achievement marks a significant milestone for the esteemed Dangote Group, Nigeria’s oil market, and the broader African markets.”
Another social media user said: “It’s official: Dangote refinery is up and running. Every Nigerian is happy about this, apart from people from certain tribes and regions. The post-election imaginary lovers of Nigeria celebrate and promote every negative thing about Nigeria and cry about every good thing that happens in this country.”
Stil another person said: “As usual, a NORTHERNER ensuring Nigeria survives Dangote Refinery finally takes off! A testament to the relentless vision of a Northerner determined to see Nigeria’s economy thrive. They are fueling the future of Southerners regardless of their prevailing bigotry against Arewa. Africa’s largest refinery to finally begin operations as Dangote receives initial crude.”
