Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Hails INEC for Rejecting Recall Petition

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for dismissing a petition seeking her recall from the Senate, calling the decision a triumph for democracy and constitutional order.
INEC stated on Thursday that the petition failed to meet legal requirements, effectively ending the recall attempt.
The senator, however, commended the electoral body for resisting what she described as pressure from “undemocratic forces,” including allies of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is currently wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“This is a victory for justice and the rule of law,” Akpoti-Uduaghan declared. “INEC has proven its independence by standing firm against those who seek to undermine democracy through intimidation and manipulation.”
She expressed unwavering confidence in the outcome, stating, “I was never afraid because I serve a God who never fails, and I have the unwavering support of my people.”
The senator described INEC’s decision as a corrective measure against injustice and a rebuke to political actors who rely on corruption and electoral malpractice.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also issued a broader call for accountability in Nigerian politics, urging an end to rigging, violence, and underhanded tactics.
“This is a historic defeat for the forces of darkness—those who thrive on rigging elections, suppressing voters, and terrorizing citizens,” she said.
The senator extended gratitude to her constituents and supporters nationwide, reaffirming her commitment to advocating for justice and national progress.
“My mission remains clear: to fight for the oppressed and work toward a Nigeria where fairness and good governance prevail,” she added.
INEC has not provided further details on the petition’s dismissal, but the senator’s supporters have celebrated the decision as a validation of her mandate.
