Rivers political crisis snowballs, House Leader impeached, gov teargassed
The Rivers State House of Assembly has sacked the House Leader, Edison Ehie.
The brewing political crisis blew off Ehie when the lawmakers in the early hours of Monday, October 30, 2023, removed him.
His removal is said to be a prelude to kickstart the impeachment procedure against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
The Rivers State political crisis has snowballed as security operatives fired tear gas outside the Assembly complex.
The governor, who was present at the Assembly Complex at the time, indicated that he was also teargassed while the House members fled for safety over the incident.
A protest is also ongoing outside the Complex as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes hours after a fire broke out at the assembly complex on Sunday night.
