Repairs: Third Mainland Bridge to be closed for 24 hours Sunday-Monday

The Federal Government has announced the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for 24 hours. This closure will affect traffic heading from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island. It is scheduled to begin at midnight on Sunday, February 18, and conclude at midnight on Monday, February 19.

The emergency measure aims to facilitate the comprehensive repairs of a crucial section of the bridge.

Mrs Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, issued a statement on Saturday night, providing details of the closure.

According to Kesha, during the 24 hours, motorists heading from Iyana Oworonshoki to Lagos Island will not have access to the Third Mainland Bridge.

However, motorists travelling from the Island towards Oworonshoki will have unrestricted access throughout the closure.

Kesha emphasized that the temporary closure is necessary for effective repairs on a significant bridge section.

She urged motorists to utilize alternative routes, adhere to traffic regulations, and exercise patience as the government works on the essential infrastructure.

The suggested alternative routes for Lagos Island-bound motorists include:

Ojota – Ikorodu Road – Funsho Williams Avenue – Eko Bridge – Apogbon – CMS

Ojota – Ikorodu Road – Jibowu – Yaba – Oyingbo – Iddo – Carter Bridge – CMS

Gbagada – Anthony – Ikorodu Road – Funsho Williams – Eko bridge – Apogbon – CMS

Motorists were advised to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with traffic regulatory officers during the repair period.
