Reckless driving caused Kogi accident, 19 Killed, Including 5 Children – FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 19 people, including five children, lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Lokoja-Obajana road in Kogi State on Sunday.
Kogi State FRSC Sector Commander, Kumar Tsukwam, disclosed on Monday that the crash, which involved a Toyota Hummer bus and an articulated truck in Gadabiu community, Lokoja Local Government Area, was caused by Reckless driving.
Tsukwam explained that the collision occurred around 4:00 p.m. when the bus, en route to Abuja from southern Nigeria, attempted to overtake another truck, colliding head-on with an oncoming articulated vehicle.
“Our rescue team, alongside the police, saved eight survivors and rushed them to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana, for urgent medical care,” he said.
The injured victims suffered bruises, cuts, fractures, dislocations, and burns.
Expressing worry over the rising cases of fatal accidents on Nigerian roads, Tsukwam cautioned drivers against reckless driving.
“Highways are not race tracks,” he emphasized. “Motorists must avoid speeding and dangerous overtaking.”
He further urged road users to obey traffic laws, stressing that compliance would aid the FRSC and the federal government’s efforts to reduce road accidents and fatalities nationwide.
